Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a firm declaration that the Islamic Republic will not surrender to “bullies” following sustained military operations by the United States and Israel. In a statement posted on social media platform X on Monday, the President urged the international community to condemn the aggression and compel the invading forces to adhere to established international laws.
The President referenced a recent high-level discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which he emphasised that Iran was not the instigator of this “brutal war.” He maintained that defending the nation against external aggression is an inherent and sovereign right of his country. Pezeshkian also pointed to the role of American military bases in the region, which he claimed are being used as launchpads to undermine Tehran’s diplomatic ties with its neighbours.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian argued that regional peace and stability remain unattainable as long as the “Zionist-American” strikes against Iranian territory are ignored by global powers. He described the justification of the war, based on what he termed “false information and expansionist motives,” as a regression to “medieval actions in the 21st century.” He insisted that discussions regarding a ceasefire would remain meaningless without a definitive guarantee that Iranian soil will no longer be targeted.
The conflict escalated significantly after 28 February, when joint military operations by the United States and Israel led to the death of the former Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ali Khamenei, along with several high-ranking military commanders. This targeted strike prompted an immediate and large-scale retaliatory response from Iran, involving rocket and drone barrages against Israeli-occupied territories and US military installations across the region.
As the situation continues to develop, the Iranian leadership remains steadfast in its position against territorial violations. The President concluded that Iran’s resolve to protect its borders and sovereignty is unwavering, regardless of the military pressure exerted by foreign forces. The international community is now facing increasing calls to mediate and prevent further escalation in what has become a major regional confrontation.
