Prince Harry Could Lose Duke of Sussex Title as UK Parliament Reintroduces Bill

Date:

The British royal family is once again facing a storm of controversy. Following Prince Andrew’s formal removal of titles due to scandal, attention now turns to Prince Harry, who could lose his royal designations under a proposed “Title-Stripping Bill” reintroduced in the UK Parliament.

According to The Blast, politician Rachel Maskell proposed the bill, increasing the likelihood that Harry could be stripped of his titles, including Duke of Sussex. The legislation follows procedures that removed Andrew’s titles, honors, and privileges, aiming to further distance the monarchy from the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

If passed, the law would grant the monarch authority to revoke royal titles based on recommendations from parliamentary committees or at the titleholder’s request. Sources say, “If this law passes, it wouldn’t be surprising if Prince Harry is next in line to lose his titles.”

Maskell explained that while the bill was triggered by Andrew’s scandal, its purpose is broader: to allow Parliament and the monarch to act in other cases where deemed necessary. The bill would apply not only to princes but to all levels of royal titles.

Though Prince Harry has not publicly commented, a royal insider suggested that the Invictus Games founder is “likely very concerned” about the proposed legislation. If applied to Harry, he would have to relinquish his “His Royal Highness” title, along with the Duke of Sussex, a title first created in 1801 and granted to Harry by the late Queen Elizabeth II upon his marriage to Meghan Markle in 2018. Other subsidiary titles, including Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel, would also be revoked.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from senior royal duties in 2020 but continued using their titles. Meanwhile, Harry has been attempting to rebuild ties with the royal family, a move that could help safeguard his titles. In September, he met with his father for the first time since February 2024, around the time the king was diagnosed with cancer. The reunion was described as positive and relaxed, reportedly including emotional moments. Following the meeting, Harry hinted in an interview that he plans further visits, potentially involving his family.
