PTPTN Loan Arrears Hit RM10.7 Billion Involving 1.16 Million Borrowers

Date:

Outstanding repayments on National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans have reached RM10.7 billion, involving 1.16 million borrowers as of Aug 31, according to the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE).

In a written parliamentary reply published on the Parliament website, the ministry said several initiatives had been introduced and were being planned to improve loan repayment rates.

These include strengthening loan management by reviewing the terms and conditions of loans to ensure assistance is better targeted towards those who need it, based on PTPTN’s financial capacity.

The ministry also plans to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of loan collection through enforcement measures and strategic cooperation with government agencies and corporate partners.

“Another initiative is to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of loan repayment collection through enforcement as well as strategic cooperation with government and corporate agencies,” the ministry said.

MOHE was responding to a question from Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias on the latest outstanding PTPTN loan amount and measures being taken to improve repayment.

The ministry also said PTPTN remains open to borrowers who wish to negotiate and restructure their repayments according to their financial ability.

Borrowers may also apply to defer their repayments, subject to the flexibility and conditions allowed by PTPTN.
