Former senator Tan Sri Rais Yatim arrived at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court at around 8.40am today to face a sedition charge linked to the ongoing dispute involving the Negeri Sembilan royal institution.
Rais was accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Masnah Muhamat, and his son, Danni Rais, who is the Klawang state assemblyman.
The case is being registered and heard before Ayer Keroh Sessions Court 2 judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.
The charge is believed to be linked to an event at a hotel in Melaka on June 5, where Tunku Nazaruddin Tuanku Jaafar was proclaimed as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Rais is expected to be charged under paragraph 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which is punishable under subsection 4(1) of the same law.
The Parti Wawasan Negara chairman has previously been vocal about the dispute involving the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, including expressing views on the role of the royal institution and the alleged involvement of the Attorney General’s Chambers.
In July, two Negeri Sembilan state honours previously conferred on Rais were also revoked with immediate effect on the orders of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
