Rosmah Mansor’s Federal Court Appeal Postponed After Minor Home Injuries

Date:

The Federal Court has postponed the appeal hearing of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, after she suffered minor injuries at home, preventing her from attending court today. The hearing is now scheduled for March 3.

The appeal concerns Rosmah’s 2022 application to have the conviction of former High Court judge Datuk Mohamad Reeni set aside in a case related to alleged bribes involving the Sabah school solar panel project. She was previously convicted of one charge of soliciting bribes and two charges of accepting bribes.

Rosmah’s lawyer, Datuk Gajasingam, informed the three-member panel led by Federal Court judge Datuk Nordin Hassan that his client had sustained injuries to her hands and knees while trying to prevent a complete fall at home. Gajasingam explained that Rosmah’s medical leave spans from February 24 to 28 and that he only learned of her condition the previous evening.

He requested a postponement of the appeal hearing, noting that the prosecution did not object.

Justice Azma asked whether Rosmah had been admitted to a hospital following the fall. Gajasingam replied that although she was advised to seek treatment, she declined hospitalisation. Azma emphasised that given her medical leave, she should ideally have been under medical supervision rather than at home, especially since the lawyer had requested the court to defer a long-pending case.

Deputy public prosecutor Mankel Kalasi, representing the prosecution alongside Wui Shao Wei and Sharulata, confirmed that the prosecution had no objection to the postponement.

The Federal Court accepted the request, and the case will now be heard on March 3.
