The Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) initiative represents not only affordable housing but also stability and a brighter future for low-income Malaysians, said Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.
Speaking at a keys-handing ceremony, Aiman Athirah emphasised that “a house is not merely a place to live, but a place to build a life and a family.” The programme, jointly managed by the government and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB), aims to expand access to quality housing, particularly for rural landowners.
Each RMR unit spans 750 square feet, featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Units are priced at RM75,000, with a RM20,000 government subsidy. The remaining RM55,000 can be financed through an interest-free loan of up to 16 years.
Under Budget 2026, RM500 million has been allocated to construct 6,545 RMR units nationwide. Pahang has been allocated 680 units, with 160 currently underway. In the Temerloh constituency alone, 1,933 applications have been received since 2002, with 555 units completed and handed over. Another 18 units are under construction to meet local demand.
SPNB chief executive officer Mohd Jamil Idris advised applicants to liaise directly with state offices and use the official RMR website, warning against engaging third parties on social media.
