Sabah PN to Decide on Lamag By-Election After Bung Moktar’s Passing

Date:

Sabah Perikatan Nasional (PN) will soon decide whether to contest the upcoming Lamag state by-election, following the passing of incumbent assemblyman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin yesterday.

Opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition has yet to finalise its position, but confirmed that if PN enters the race, the seat will be allocated to Bersatu.

“At the recent state election, Bersatu fielded a candidate in Lamag,” he said during a briefing and community engagement event with the Indian community last night, attended by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

Bung Moktar, 66, passed away at 1.46am yesterday while receiving treatment at Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu.

He had defended the Lamag seat in the recent state election, securing a narrow 153-vote win in a six-cornered fight.

According to the Election Commission (EC), Lamag has 13,859 registered voters and is one of three state constituencies under the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat.
