The Sabah government plans to introduce a new enactment to streamline property transactions and land management if Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is given the mandate to form the state administration again after the 17th Sabah state election, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Hajiji, who also chairs GRS, said the new enactment is necessary to overcome technical challenges that frequently delay land dealings and ownership transfers.
“Some of the existing regulations have been in place for too long and are no longer suitable. They must be revised to speed up dealings between buyers, landowners and the relevant agencies.
“Certain enactments are outdated because they’ve been around for decades. We need to update them to make property management easier for both buyers and landowners,” he said.
He told reporters this after witnessing the handover of 1Borneo subsidiary titles to the United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA) by the State Lands and Surveys Department at Menara Kinabalu today.
Earlier in his speech, Hajiji welcomed the completion of the long-awaited distribution of 1,974 subsidiary titles for shop units and residences at 1Borneo.
He said the successful handover reflects the GRS government’s commitment to accelerating the issuance of strata titles, although some technical issues still need to be resolved.
“It clearly shows that the government, through the Lands and Surveys Department, has done its best to assist USIA as well as property owners and buyers at 1Borneo,” he said.
He added that the development further demonstrates the state government’s ongoing efforts to resolve land and property matters, including the proposal for a new enactment to ease dealings between developers and owners.
1Borneo Hypermall consists of four residential blocks with 910 strata titles, 21 titles for 2,300 covered parking bays, and 1,043 commercial titles, including four hotels with a combined 929 rooms.
