‘Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility’ — Loke Responds To LRT Track Incident

Date:

An incident involving a passenger falling onto the Light Rail Transit tracks at Abdullah Hukum station on Friday has prompted renewed calls for stricter public awareness on safety compliance when using public transport.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the situation triggered the Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop (PIES) system as a train was approaching the station, preventing a potentially more serious outcome.

He expressed relief that the individual was safely rescued and that the station’s emergency response system functioned effectively during the incident.

“This serves as an important reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and adhere to safety regulations at public transport facilities,” he said in a statement.

Loke also extended his appreciation to rescue personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Malaysia Civil Defence Force and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad for their swift and professional handling of the situation.

He further thanked other commuters for their patience and cooperation, noting that public support played a key role in ensuring a smooth rescue operation.

Emphasising shared responsibility, Loke reminded the public that safety within transport systems depends on both infrastructure readiness and user awareness.
