Sarawak has officially declared June 3 and June 4 as additional public holidays following overlapping festive celebrations and official holidays.
Sarawak State Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the declaration was made under Section 5 of the Public Holidays Ordinance after receiving consent from Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
According to him, June 3 will serve as a replacement public holiday for Wesak Day, which falls on May 31 this year.
Meanwhile, June 4 has been declared a replacement holiday for the Gawai Dayak celebration due to the festival coinciding with the official birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on June 1, 2026.
The state government said the replacement holidays are intended to substitute official public holidays listed under the First Schedule of the Sarawak Public Holidays Ordinance.
The announcement is expected to bring extended festive celebrations and a longer break for many Sarawakians during the upcoming holiday period.
