Security Forces Urged To Stop ‘Blackout’ Drug From Entering Sabah

Date:

Security forces in Sabah have been urged to take preventive measures to stop the entry of a new type of synthetic drug reportedly known as “blackout” or “zombie” into the state.

Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah said authorities should act early despite there being no reports so far of the drug entering Sabah.

“After the nation was hit by magic mushroom vape drugs, we are now threatened with this new drug,” he said in a statement.

Masiung claimed the substance was reportedly “a hundred times stronger than morphine” and warned that its liquid form could be mixed into vape juice, food or drinks, as well as applied to cigarettes before they are smoked.

According to the National Anti-Drug Agency, the substance can produce a stronger intoxicating effect and may cause users to lose consciousness due to its higher dosage levels.

Masiung also warned that the drug reportedly contains substances such as ketamine and a type of psychotropic poison that can have harmful effects on the nervous system.

He said reports indicated that the illegal substance had entered the country through both sea and air routes, raising concerns that international and local syndicates could be processing it for distribution on Malaysia’s black market.

Given the potential risks associated with the substance, Masiung stressed that enforcement agencies should strengthen preventive measures at Sabah’s entry points before the drug gains a foothold in the state.
