‘Seeing Your Father Go Through This Is Not Easy’: Azeez Rahim’s Son Speaks Out

Date:

“As a son, believe me… seeing your father go through something like this is not easy.”

Those were the words of Mohamed Khairul Azman Azeez, son of former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who claimed his father was being held at Dang Wangi police station.

In a Facebook post, Mohamed Khairul Azman said his father had been scheduled to appear at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow to face charges expected to be brought against him.

However, he said those plans changed after Abdul Azeez was detained again and was reportedly set to be remanded from tomorrow.

“Tomorrow, my father was supposed to walk into the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to face the charges that would be brought against him.

“But tonight, my father is once again in custody, this time at Dang Wangi police station, and is reportedly going to be remanded from tomorrow,” he wrote in the post on Tuesday.

Abdul Azeez, a former Baling MP, was previously reported to be facing charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wednesday.

According to the court system, he is scheduled to be charged before Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi at 9am.

Mohamed Khairul Azman also said his father had been expected to attend the UMNO General Assembly with his fellow party members, but those plans were disrupted by the latest developments.

He said he never imagined having to write about his father under such circumstances.

Throughout his life, he said he had known Abdul Azeez as a strong person who chose to remain patient when faced with insults and allegations.

“As a son, believe me, seeing your father go through something like this is not easy.

“There is sadness. There is fear. There is disappointment,” he said.

At the same time, Mohamed Khairul Azman said the experience had taught him not to respond to injustice with hatred or answer allegations with further allegations.

“I do not want to get ahead of the court process. Nor do I want to judge anyone.

“I only hope for one thing — that this process is carried out fairly, transparently and without prejudice. A charge is only a charge until it is proven in court,” he said.

He also urged the public to pray for his father to be given strength, peace and protection, and for all matters involving him to be made easier.

“Most importantly, pray that the truth will eventually find its way because behind the person many know as Azeez Rahim is a human being whom our family calls Ata.

“And tonight, as his son, my heart is truly heavy and saddened,” he said.
