Selangor’s dams are currently capable of sustaining the state’s water supply for up to three months if dry weather persists without significant rainfall, Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco Datuk Ir Izham Hashim said.
He said the overall capacity of the state’s dams remains under control despite a slight decline in water levels, particularly at Sungai Langat Dam, which is currently at around 78 per cent capacity.
Izham said the reduction was considered normal and had also occurred in previous months, adding that the dam was expected to recover its water level when rainfall returns. Other dams in Selangor, meanwhile, remain above 85 per cent capacity.
He noted that even limited rainfall could help extend the period for which existing water reserves can be maintained. When additional sources such as off-river storage are taken into account, the state’s overall water supply resilience could last even longer.
Meanwhile, Izham said around 5,000 visitors are expected to attend Karnival Bendang 2026, which features 25 activities aimed at reviving the spirit of cooperation and unity among the paddy field community.
The carnival is being held for the second year after receiving encouraging response during its inaugural edition last year. Various paddy field-related activities have also been organised to bring back memories of traditional community life in the area.
