Selangor has called for stricter inspections of all chicken slaughterhouses across the state following the discovery of an unlicensed halal slaughtering facility in Puchong.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said inspections must be strengthened to ensure operators comply with halal standards and prevent consumers from having doubts about the meat they purchase.
He said monitoring should be carried out jointly by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), state Islamic religious departments and enforcement agencies to ensure all premises follow proper halal slaughtering procedures.
“The certification bodies, namely Jakim and the state Islamic religious departments, together with the enforcement authorities, must conduct regular inspections to ensure these facilities comply with the standards set by both departments.
“I also urge members of the public to lodge complaints if they suspect any slaughterhouse is operating without following halal requirements,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking after the Nutrisi Selangor (Nutrisel) nutrition food distribution programme at Sekolah Rendah Agama Islam (SRAI) Section 19 today.
He also called for firm action against operators found violating the law.
Kosmo! reported on Saturday that 12 Bangladeshi and Pakistani men were arrested during Op Taring Chiller in a raid on a chicken processing and slaughtering warehouse in Puchong at approximately 12.40am.
