The Selangor government will consider Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s proposal to cancel the planned Bukit Tagar centralised pig farming project.
State Tourism and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the matter would be discussed at the next State Executive Council meeting. He added that the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council has yet to approve the project.
“We are awaiting instructions from the Menteri Besar to hold discussions and determine the next course of action,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
Ng stressed that there was no issue in deliberating the proposal, noting that the prime minister’s view had only been conveyed recently and that there has been no progress at the local council level.
On Friday, Anwar said he would recommend that the Selangor government cancel the project, which has sparked public controversy.
Earlier, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state had yet to identify an alternative site to replace Bukit Tagar for the relocation of pig farms. However, he assured that the government remains open to discussions with all stakeholders to establish a more systematic and comprehensive livestock management approach.
Previously, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed disappointment and disagreement with the state’s decision to allow pig farming activities to continue in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat, pending their proposed relocation to Bukit Tagar in 2030.
