Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, clarified today that he has yet to receive any official letter from Perikatan Nasional (PN) regarding the appointment of a new Opposition Leader to replace Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, Johari emphasised that until a formal notification is submitted, Hamzah continues to hold the position.
“That (rumours that Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan from Kota Bharu has been nominated as Opposition Leader) is an internal party matter, which I will not interfere with. Until I receive the letter, YB Larut (Hamzah) remains the Opposition Leader,” he said.
The statement was made in response to a query by RSN Rayer, who raised concerns about circulating rumours suggesting Takiyuddin as Hamzah’s replacement.
Previously, Hamzah’s membership in BERSATU was terminated by the party’s Disciplinary Board for allegedly violating Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution, as confirmed in a notice issued by chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan.
Following this, BERSATU President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reportedly urged PAS to nominate a candidate promptly to fill the Opposition Leader post, stressing that a swift resolution is necessary to avoid negatively impacting PN’s image.
