Special Needs Kids Urged to Get MyKad to Unlock Government Aid

Date:

Parents of children with special needs are being urged to register their children’s births to ensure they can obtain a MyKad (identity card) and access various government assistance programmes.

National Registration Department (JPN) director-general Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias emphasized that JPN remains dedicated to helping eligible individuals acquire a MyKad through community-focused initiatives, such as the Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (MEKAR) programme.

“Regardless of whether a child is healthy or has disabilities, registering their birth is crucial. Once they have an identification document, they can directly enjoy government assistance benefits,” he said after the MEKAR programme in Kampung Gong Tunga.

Badrul Hisham noted that as of December this year, JPN had conducted 3,300 MEKAR programmes nationwide, including 200 in Kelantan, processing nearly 100,000 applications.

During the programme, he presented replacement MyKads to two siblings with learning disabilities, Mohd Zaimi Mohd Noor, 48, and Mohd Zulkufli Mohd Noor, 29, who had faced transportation challenges in reaching the JPN office.

The siblings are among five children with disabilities of farmer Mohd Noor Mohd Zain, 70, who required close supervision at home since childhood, making it difficult for the family to travel.

“We hope that these replacement MyKads will help the family access other assistance they are eligible for, easing their burden,” he said.

Badrul Hisham also called on community leaders, NGOs, and the media to share relevant information with JPN to ensure that all eligible citizens can receive a MyKad.
