Tengku Hassanal Delays Descent To Accompany Injured Expedition Member

Date:

The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, successfully reached the summit of Mount Kinabalu at 8.45am yesterday as part of the “Borneo Crown Expedition”.

However, the royal expedition took an unexpected turn when one of the accompanying team members suffered a leg injury during the descent from the mountain.

According to Tengku Hassanal’s private secretary, Amir Shafi, the injured individual was airlifted by helicopter at around 3pm from Panalaban, a rest stop located midway on the mountain, to the Kundasang clinic for further treatment.

He said the Crown Prince had originally planned to descend from Panalaban to Timpohon Gate after successfully reaching the summit at about 9.30am.

“However, one of the accompanying personnel sustained an injury and required immediate medical attention, prompting the transfer to the Kundasang health clinic,” he said.

Despite the change in schedule, Tengku Hassanal chose to remain by the injured team member’s side instead of continuing the descent. The Crown Prince also accompanied the injured individual in the ambulance to the clinic and stayed until treatment was completed.

The injured team member is reported to be in stable condition following treatment.

Amir Shafi added that Tengku Hassanal also expressed his appreciation to the medical personnel and staff at the Kundasang clinic for their professionalism and quality service.

The Crown Prince is expected to return home at around 2pm after completing the three-day expedition.
