The Terengganu leadership of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is facing a major shake-up after at least three senior figures, including its state chief Datuk Razali Idris, resigned from their positions.
Besides Razali, who is also the Terengganu State Executive Council (Exco) member overseeing Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change, two Bersatu assemblymen also stepped down from their respective roles within the state leadership.
The two assemblymen, Mohd Zawawi Ismail (Telemong) and Mohd Husaimi Hussin (Hulu Besut), resigned as state information chief and treasurer respectively.
Terengganu Bersatu deputy state chief Khazan Che Mat, who is also the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (DUN) deputy speaker, has also hinted that he may follow the move in the near future.
Razali confirmed that he had officially announced his resignation as Terengganu Bersatu state chief during a leadership meeting held yesterday.
He said he had submitted his resignation letter to Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the middle of last month.
“Besides that, I have also decided to relinquish my position as Marang Bersatu division chief in the middle of next month,” he said.
However, Razali declined to reveal the reasons behind his decision but stressed that he remained loyal to Bersatu, a party he helped establish in 2016.
The Kijal assemblyman, who previously served as Bersatu information chief, said he would continue as an ordinary party member.
He added that he would also continue carrying out his duties as a Terengganu Exco member for as long as his services were needed by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
