Three young Indonesians—a high school student and two university students—have reportedly died after participating in a series of demonstrations that turned violent in multiple locations around Indonesia’s capital between August 25 and September 1, 2025.
The victims have been identified as Andika Lutfi Falah, a 17-year-old student from SMK Negeri 14 in Kabupaten Tangerang; Iko Juliant Junior, a student at a private institution in Jakarta; and Rheza Sendy Pratama, a 21-year-old student at Universitas Amikom Yogyakarta.
According to TribunNews, Andika Lutfi went missing after attending a demonstration near the Gedung DPR RI on August 28. He was found two days later in critical condition at RSAL Mintoharjo, Jakarta, with severe head injuries, reportedly caused by a blunt object. Andika passed away on September 1 after spending two days in a coma.
His mother revealed that Andika had left home without his mobile phone or identification card, intending to return early to accompany her to a medical appointment. The family has chosen not to pursue legal action, considering the incident as fate.
Meanwhile, Rheza Sendy Pratama collapsed during a demonstration in front of the Kepolisian Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (Polda DIY) on August 31. According to a statement from RSUP Dr Sardjito, Rheza was brought to the hospital unconscious and passed away after 30 minutes of unsuccessful resuscitation. The cause of death was identified as cardiac arrest. Rheza’s family has declined further examination and left the matter entirely to authorities.
The Chairman of the DPRD DIY, Nuryadi, called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the circumstances of the deaths.
Details regarding the death of Iko Juliant Junior have not yet been fully disclosed, but he is listed among nine individuals who reportedly died during the demonstrations.
The incidents have raised serious concerns among the public and local leaders, who are urging authorities to conduct comprehensive investigations into the causes of death and the level of safety during the protests.
