The Trump administration has reportedly been secretly crafting a new plan to end the war in Ukraine in consultation with Russia, according to Axios, citing U.S. and Russian officials.
The proposal, inspired by former President Donald Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan, is said to consist of 28 points addressing “peace in Ukraine, security guarantees, security in Europe, and future U.S. relations with Russia and Ukraine,” sources told Axios.
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is leading the initiative and has discussed the plan extensively with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev. Earlier this week, Witkoff also briefed Rustem Umerov, security advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in Miami, according to a Ukrainian official cited by Axios.
A U.S. official added that the White House has begun briefing European counterparts on the proposal. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.
