US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could strike Pickaxe Mountain, a site linked to Iran’s nuclear programme, “not long from now” as he said American forces were carrying out intermittent attacks against Iran.
Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office on Friday, Trump said the US was closely monitoring developments at the site and claimed Washington knew “every individual who moves at Pickaxe” as well as across Iran.
“We may strike Pickaxe not long from now,” he said.
Trump said the US had launched attacks “intermittently”, while claiming there had been no active fighting for several days before the latest American strikes targeting Iranian radar systems.
“We are not at war right now. There is no fighting,” he said.
He also claimed that US intervention had prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons, saying the action had helped protect the wider Middle East.
“They will not have nuclear weapons. That’s what we did,” Trump said.
Asked when the conflict would end, Trump said he could not provide a timeframe, but maintained that Washington had already achieved its primary objectives.
Pickaxe Mountain has been identified as a site associated with Iran’s nuclear activities and has previously drawn attention over concerns surrounding the country’s nuclear programme.
