Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy chairman Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has told Bersatu to withdraw from the coalition following party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s objection to proposed disciplinary action against the party.
Muhyiddin had questioned why Bersatu should face disciplinary proceedings, arguing that it had not breached any rules. He also said Bersatu was the party that reported alleged violations by PAS within PN to the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
In response, Tuan Ibrahim, who is also PAS deputy president, said Muhyiddin had effectively answered his own question.
“The answer is already in his remarks. Bersatu does not need to try to dissolve PN or take all sorts of actions to weaken the coalition.
“It would be better for Bersatu to withdraw from PN. They were the ones who lodged a complaint with the RoS, but now they are the ones expressing sadness when the RoS deregistered PN,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
The dispute follows the RoS’s decision to deregister PN. However, the High Court on Thursday granted a stay on the decision pending the full disposal of the coalition’s judicial review against the authority.
Muhyiddin had described the deregistration as evidence of wrongdoing within PN, while maintaining that Bersatu had complied with the rules by reporting the matter to the registrar.
Tuan Ibrahim said the proposed disciplinary action against Bersatu had been referred to PN’s supreme council, which would deliberate and decide on the appropriate measures.
On Sunday, PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said disciplinary action would be taken against Bersatu for allegedly violating the coalition’s constitution, including by contesting against PN in the Negeri Sembilan election.
He added that PN would examine several of Bersatu’s actions that allegedly went against the coalition’s interests before finalising the charges against the party.
