UMNO Kelantan has called off its state-level Aidilfitri open house this year in line with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recommendation to cultivate a culture of financial prudence.
The state party chairman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, said the decision is also a precautionary measure in anticipation of potential financial challenges arising from global economic uncertainties.
“Alongside the open house, the planned Ramadan breaking-of-fast event at the end of the month has also been postponed,” he said after a Ramadan moreh gathering with Kelantan media practitioners on Monday night.
Earlier on March 11, Anwar announced that all ministries, government agencies, and government-linked companies (GLCs) would refrain from organising Aidilfitri open houses this year as part of cost-saving efforts amid global economic volatility triggered by the West Asia conflict.
The Prime Minister said the Cabinet’s decision sends a clear message that the government is committed to adopting a more moderate and prudent approach in public expenditure.
Kelantan’s Economic Growth Remains Weak
Commenting on the state’s economy, Ahmad Jazlan said Kelantan’s growth remains weak without support from the federal government and the private sector.
He also compared Kelantan’s development with other states, noting that Johor is more advanced, Pahang recorded revenue exceeding RM1 billion, and Melaka continues to thrive as a prominent tourism state.
The move by UMNO Kelantan aligns with national efforts to encourage fiscal responsibility while maintaining community engagement within sustainable limits.
