Umno Membership Applications Soar After Negri Sembilan Election Win

Date:

Umno has recorded a significant increase in new membership registrations following the Barisan Nasional (BN)-Perikatan Nasional (PN) victory in the Negri Sembilan state election.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the increase was largely driven by young Malaysians, particularly those aged between 18 and 25.

He said online membership applications had received an “extraordinary response” after the election results were announced.

“The majority of the new members are youngsters aged between 18 and 25 years old,” he said in a Facebook post.

According to the latest figures, young women accounted for 2,288 or 12 per cent of new Umno members, while young men made up the largest group with 10,080 registrations or 54 per cent.

Meanwhile, new female member registrations stood at 2,126 people, representing 11 per cent of the total increase, while ordinary membership applications accounted for 4,156 people or 22 per cent.

The surge in membership came after BN secured 18 seats in the 16th Negri Sembilan state election, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 12 seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) captured seven seats.

The latest development reflects renewed interest in Umno following its performance in the state polls, with a significant number of new members coming from the younger generation.
