The study on the need to reintroduce the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) and the Form Three Assessment (PT3) is expected to be completed this year, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She said the study would begin immediately after the appointment process for members of the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK) is finalised.
“The MPPK is currently in the process of being appointed. In terms of preparation, as per my instructions, we are already ready.
“We are just waiting for the members to be appointed, and once that is done, we will complete the study within this year as soon as possible,” she told reporters after the PAKAT Preschool Programme and the handover of Early Schooling Assistance at Sekolah Kebangsaan Presint 9 (1) here today.
UPSR was abolished in 2021, while PT3 was abolished in 2022, with both assessments replaced by School-Based Assessment.
Fadhlina said the study is being carried out as the government has taken into account requests and feedback from parents and educators regarding the need for both examinations.
She added that her ministry has received views from various stakeholders, prompting the government to review the matter carefully before making any major decisions on national education policy.
“I don’t think there is any issue with conducting a study when there is demand. This shows that the government listens when there are requests, and we take an approach to review and study together before making important decisions,” she said.
Meanwhile, on the distribution of Early Schooling Assistance (BAP), Fadhlina said the ministry aims to complete the process within this week, while allowing some flexibility for certain schools.
“We are actually hoping to complete it this week, but we are giving slightly more time because some schools in rural areas and those with large student populations may need additional time to manage the distribution,” she said, adding that the nationwide rollout of BAP has so far been running smoothly.
