Wee Ka Siong: Young Lawyers and Corporate Pros to Strengthen MCA’s Voice on Public Issues

Date:

Young professionals, particularly those in the legal and corporate sectors, are showing increasing interest in joining the MCA party.

Party president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong described this trend as a positive sign, believing it will bring significant benefits to the party in the future. He added that it demonstrates MCA’s continued relevance as a platform for educated individuals to contribute ideas and expertise on issues affecting the public.

“Some of these young professionals are lawyers well-versed in matters related to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), freedom of speech, media, and other policies with societal impact. They understand the challenges faced by the community. For instance, when the government introduces policies like e-invoicing, they can clearly assess the effects on the public,” he told reporters.

Wee made the remarks after attending the MCA Johor Annual General Meeting on Sunday, where the party also welcomed new member Ricky Wong, the grandson of the late Datuk Wong Shee Fun, one of the founders of MCA Johor.

“Datuk Wong played a crucial role in establishing MCA in 1949 alongside Tun Sir Tan Cheng Lock and became the first MCA Johor chairman. I am delighted that his grandson has joined the party today. This shows MCA’s ability to attract young generations from families who have historically built its legacy,” he said.

Wee added that the party welcomes young professionals because they are expected to strengthen MCA’s direction and mission.

“It’s time for everyone to voice their opinions. If they have constructive suggestions or criticisms for the government, we will consider them. From there, the public can judge whether these views are for the greater good or otherwise,” he concluded.
