UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that he will meet the party’s Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, later this afternoon.
Speaking to reporters after the closing ceremony of the Malaysian Islamic Scholars Multaqa on Tuesday, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said he was unsure of the outcome of the meeting.
“He will meet me this afternoon. I do not yet know what decision he will make regarding his position in the party and the government,” he said.
Yesterday, Dr Muhamad Akmal stated that he would accept any decision made by Ahmad Zahid and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh concerning his current positions.
Dr Muhamad Akmal is the Merlimau state assemblyman and serves as Melaka’s Exco for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security.
Previously, media reports indicated that Dr Muhamad Akmal had hinted at stepping down from both roles following negative reactions from Ahmad Zahid over his call for UMNO to withdraw from the Unity Government.
