Zahid Warns BN To Prepare For ‘Biggest Battle’ As General Election Nears

Date:

Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has warned coalition members to brace themselves for what he described as their “biggest battle yet”, saying the next general election is fast approaching.

Marking BN’s 52nd anniversary on Monday, Zahid called on party members and leaders to remain united and strengthen the coalition if they hope to secure a stronger mandate from voters.

“Believe me, the journey ahead will not always be easy. We will face many battles, leading up to the biggest battle – the general election, which is just around the corner,” he said in a message posted on Facebook.

His remarks come amid growing political speculation over the timing of the next national polls, despite the current parliamentary term only expiring in February 2028.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has previously indicated that snap elections could be considered should tensions within the Unity Government intensify.

At the same time, ongoing geopolitical uncertainties, including the conflict involving Iran, are expected to pose challenges to Malaysia’s economic outlook in the coming years.

Reflecting on BN’s 52-year journey, Zahid described the coalition as a political alliance built on the principles of moderation, understanding and cooperation among Malaysians from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds.

He said BN has experienced both triumphs and setbacks over the decades, from leading the nation through periods of growth and development to enduring political challenges that tested its strength and resilience.

According to Zahid, the coalition must continue embracing change and renewal while drawing on its vast political experience to remain relevant in an increasingly complex political environment.

He stressed that today’s voters expect mature politics, responsible leadership and practical solutions to issues affecting their daily lives.

As political dynamics continue to evolve, Zahid said BN must adapt to changing public expectations and future challenges if it hopes to regain stronger support ahead of the next election.

His message serves as a rallying call to coalition members as political parties begin positioning themselves for what could be another fiercely contested general election.
