Malaysia’s national football team, the Harimau Malaya, is on the rise after two significant international victories against Singapore and Palestine this month, boosting their chances of breaking into the top 120 in the world rankings.
According to football-ranking.com, under the guidance of coach Peter Cklamovski, Malaysia currently sits at 120th in the FIFA real-time rankings, climbing five spots from their previous position. The team last held the 120th spot between November 10 and December 20, 2004, before rising to 114th in subsequent updates.
The 2-1 win over Singapore and 1-0 triumph against Palestine earned Malaysia an additional 9.75 points, bringing their total to 1,148.23 points. This current ranking positions the national team favorably compared to regional rivals, with Vietnam dropping two spots to 115th and Indonesia rising one spot to 117th.
Looking ahead, the Harimau Malaya have a chance to gain more ranking points in next month’s 2027 World Cup qualifying matches against Laos. Previously, the team had climbed six spots to 125th in the July rankings.
Historically, Malaysia’s highest FIFA ranking was 75th in 1993, achieved under coach Ken Worden when FIFA first introduced the ranking system.
