JDT Through to Quarter-Finals, But Coach Demands Higher Standards

Date:

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Muñoz admitted his side delivered a below-par performance despite edging PDRM FC 1–0 in the Malaysia Cup round of 16 second-leg match at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

The narrow win sealed an emphatic 11–1 aggregate victory and booked JDT a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Melaka FC.

Muñoz said his team created numerous chances but failed to fully control the match or convert opportunities consistently.

“I don’t think this was our best night,” he said during the post-match press conference.

He added that improvements are needed in both attack and defence, stressing the importance of learning from the performance.

“Tonight showed us many important things. One of our key tasks is to learn from our mistakes, especially in terms of attitude, character, and behaviour,” Muñoz said.

Despite the comfortable aggregate scoreline, the coach emphasised that his players must remain focused heading into the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, PDRM FC assistant head coach Eddy Gapil praised his team’s defensive organisation, noting that they managed to restrict JDT to just a single goal.
