Malaysia’s national men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia received a major boost in his quest to reclaim the top of the game after defeating higher-ranked Belgian Julien Carraggi in straight games at the Thailand Masters today.
The world No. 79 Malaysian player overcame world No. 53 Carraggi 21-19, 21-11 in just 29 minutes at Bangkok’s Nimibutr Stadium.
The victory is a timely confidence boost for the Paris bronze medallist, who was eliminated in the early rounds of the Malaysia and India Opens earlier this year.
Last week at the Indonesia Masters, Zii Jia reached the second round before losing to an Indian opponent.
He will face the winner of the clash between India’s Mithun Manjunath and Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen tomorrow.
