National para badminton star Cheah Liek Hou once again proved his dominance on the world stage after defending his men’s singles SU5 (physical impairment) crown at the 2026 BWF Para Badminton World Championships in Bahrain today.

The 37-year-old needed just 28 minutes to dispatch Taiwan’s Fang Jen Yu in straight sets, 21-6, 21-11, in a one-sided final that underlined his supremacy in the category. The victory marked his ninth world title in the men’s singles SU5 event, having consistently claimed the biennial championship from 2005 through 2024.

Liek Hou, who also captured gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, has built an extraordinary legacy in the sport. In addition to his singles success, he has secured six men’s doubles SU5 world titles between 2005 and 2024.

Eyes On Another Title

The seasoned campaigner now has an opportunity to complete a double at this year’s championships. He is set to compete in the men’s doubles SU5 final later tonight alongside Faris Ahmad Azri.

The Malaysian pair will take on Taiwan’s Fang Jen Yu and Pu Gui Yu, with Liek Hou aiming to add yet another chapter to his illustrious career.

His latest triumph reinforces Malaysia’s standing in para badminton and highlights the remarkable consistency of one of the nation’s most decorated athletes.
