Pandelela Rinong Withdraws from World Diving Championship Due to Shoulder Injury

Date:

National diving icon Pandelela Rinong has officially withdrawn from the Women’s 10m Platform Individual Preliminary event at the World Diving Championship, citing an ongoing shoulder injury that has yet to fully heal. The withdrawal follows her earlier exit from the 10m Platform Synchronised event just two days prior.

In a heartfelt announcement on her official Facebook page, the 31-year-old Olympian expressed deep regret over the decision, but emphasized that it was made after thoughtful consideration of her physical condition.

“With a heavy heart but a clear mind, I’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw… my left shoulder injury has not recovered enough for me to compete safely and at my best,” she shared.

Despite stepping back from the competition, Pandelela conveyed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and concern from fans and well-wishers, vowing to prioritize her recovery in order to return stronger in future competitions.

“I promise to take better care of my body as I focus on healing and preparing for the next opportunity to represent Malaysia,” she wrote.

Pandelela also took the opportunity to show support for her teammates who continue to compete in the championship, urging fans to rally behind them.

“Please join me in sending them your support, luck, and prayers as they continue to compete for Malaysia,” she added.

Pandelela’s absence marks a significant blow to Malaysia’s diving contingent, but her decision underscores the importance of long-term health and athlete wellbeing.
