Perak are open to signing several new players to strengthen their squad for this season’s Malaysia Cup, Perak Football Association president Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin said.
However, he stressed that any decision would depend on recommendations from the team manager and coaching staff.
“If the manager and coaches identify the need, and if new signings can bring meaningful improvement and enhance the team’s performance, I am prepared to make room for additional players.
“This is part of our preparation to reinforce the squad for the Malaysia Cup and the remaining A1 League fixtures following the opening of the second Malaysia League transfer window on Jan 5,” he said after officiating the launch of the Perak Sejahtera League 2030 at Casuarina@Meru Hotel yesterday.
Perak, who qualified on merit for this season’s Malaysia Cup, face a stern test after being drawn against Kuala Lumpur City FC in the round of 16. The first leg will be played at the Manjung Municipal Council Stadium on Jan 18, with the return leg scheduled at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium on Jan 25.
Mohd Azhar expressed hope that the players would rise to the challenge and produce an upset against Kuala Lumpur City, who lifted the Malaysia Cup in 2021.
“We know they are a stronger side, reinforced by many foreign players, but in football anything can happen over 90 minutes.
“I hope our players will put in a quality performance and surprise The City Boys,” he said.
