Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, put up a spirited performance but ultimately fell short against South Korea’s world No. 3 duo, Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho, in the Japan Open quarterfinals on Friday (July 18).
Competing at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Wei Chong and Kai Wun fought hard after dropping the opening game 13-21. They bounced back impressively to take the second 21-18, but couldn’t sustain their momentum in the deciding rubber, going down 13-21.
This marks the Malaysian pair’s second loss to Seung-jae and Won-ho this year, having previously been beaten in straight games at the Orleans Masters in March. However, their performance in Tokyo showed clear signs of progress and resilience, especially managing to snatch a game from one of the world’s top pairings.
Despite the defeat, Wei Chong and Kai Wun can take heart from their improvement and will look to build on this experience in upcoming tournaments.
