Meta has launched a new feature on Facebook called “Facebook Content Protection”, aimed at helping creators safeguard their Reels from unauthorized copying. The tool functions similarly to Rights Manager and works for videos posted directly on Facebook, allowing the system to track and detect instances of copied content.
When a potential copy is detected, the original creator receives a detailed notification showing the percentage of content match, view counts, follower numbers, and the monetisation status of the infringing video. Creators then have three options: block visibility to remove the copied clip from Facebook and Instagram, add attribution links to credit the original creator, or release claim to allow the clip to remain online.
To simplify collaboration, creators can also set up an “Allow List”, specifying accounts permitted to repost clips without triggering alerts. Meta has warned that submitting false copyright claims could result in a permanent ban from the tool.
Currently, Facebook Content Protection is available to creators enrolled in the Facebook Content Monetization programme who meet the platform’s eligibility requirements.
