New Huawei Foldable Arrives Before Apple And Samsung Rival Devices

Date:

Huawei has unveiled a new wide-format foldable smartphone, the Pura X Max, which appears to have beaten Apple and Samsung to market in the emerging “passport-style” foldable category.

The device, which is set for an official launch in China on April 20 alongside the Pura 90 series, features a noticeably broader aspect ratio compared to most existing foldables. Early promotional images show the phone in multiple colour options, including blue, white, orange and black, and confirm a triple rear camera setup.

The design continues Huawei’s established styling from its previous Pura X model, incorporating textured rear panel sections and a wider overall body. The company’s latest approach suggests the handset is optimised for both horizontal media viewing and flexible use in portrait orientation when unfolded.

Industry observers note that the form factor closely resembles leaked designs of Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, as well as rumours surrounding Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy Z Fold devices, both of which are expected to adopt wider displays than current models.

While detailed specifications for the Pura X Max have not yet been fully revealed, the early launch positions Huawei ahead of its rivals in exploring this new foldable direction. Both Apple and Samsung are expected to introduce their own versions later this year.
