Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Wong Siew Ki has stressed that the principles of the Rukun Negara remain the foundation and guiding values in carrying out her responsibilities as a representative of the people.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Siew Ki said the five principles of the Rukun Negara continue to serve as an important guide in all her actions to ensure the interests of the people of Selangor and Malaysia are always prioritised.
According to her, the principles of Belief in God, Loyalty to King and Country, Supremacy of the Constitution, Rule of Law, and Courtesy and Morality are essential in fulfilling the trust placed upon her by the rakyat.
“I hold in the highest regard the royal decree of His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj,” she said.
She added that she deeply respects and consistently upholds these principles in every aspect of her duties as an elected representative.
Her statement came after Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah suggested that Siew Ki and former Selangor exco Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew attend Dataran Selangor once a week to better appreciate the principles of the Rukun Negara and the importance of respecting the royal institution and proper conduct.
The Sultan reportedly emphasised that such understanding is crucial, especially for political leaders, in preserving national unity and harmony.
Siew Ki had previously drawn attention during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting after proposing that the state government consider allowing the exploration of modern and closed-system pig farming in Selangor.
She said the suggestion took into account principles of equality guaranteed under Article 8(2) of the Federal Constitution.
