A policyholder recently took to Facebook to publicly accuse insurance agent Tan Hung Charh (Chinese name: 陈汉佳, also known as Terry Tan) of long-term fraud. According to the woman, she had been purchasing medical and savings insurance policies for herself and her three children from him over the past ten years. However, last year, she discovered several unauthorized policies under her name, with signatures suspected to have been forged. She lamented, “I was deceived for a whole 10 years!”
The victim explained that while working in Singapore years ago, she didn’t have a credit card and could only pay premiums via cash or bank transfers. She entrusted the payments to Terry Tan, who never informed her that credit card payment was an option. “I trusted him too much back then,” she admitted. In 2024, when she tried to check the status of her policies, Tan gave evasive answers, raising her suspicions. She then personally contacted the insurance companies to verify.

After inquiries with Great Eastern and Allianz, she found multiple policies were issued without her authorization and contained forged signatures. She estimates the amount involved is close to NT$200,000, but Terry Tan has only agreed to repay about NT$30,000. “He admitted partial responsibility and returned some money, but it’s far from enough,” she stressed. She has filed a police report with insurance company representatives accompanying her.
The victim also revealed that after the discovery, Terry Tan reportedly deleted his Facebook account and blocked her on social media, ignoring her calls and messages, suggesting he is avoiding accountability.
She urged the public to be vigilant: “If you have bought insurance from him, please verify your policies with the insurance companies as soon as possible.” She worries there may be more victims, especially elderly or those unfamiliar with insurance procedures.
The case is now under judicial investigation, and police encourage anyone with similar experiences to come forward to help prevent such incidents from recurring.
