The government will table the Anti-Bullying Tribunal Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on December 1, announced Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said today.
According to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Members of Parliament will receive a detailed briefing on the same day to clarify the structure, mechanisms and powers of the proposed tribunal.
“On November 21, Cabinet approved the Bill to be debated in Parliament. The first reading will take place on December 1, followed by a comprehensive briefing for all MPs regarding the tribunal’s structure, mechanism and jurisdiction,” Azalina said via a written parliamentary reply shared on her Instagram account.
She explained that the Bill aims to strengthen alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation grounded in restorative justice principles. It also ensures greater involvement from parents and long-term support for both victims and perpetrators.
The tribunal is intended to provide an efficient platform to address bullying cases without court proceedings, allowing for faster resolution of matters that do not fall under the Penal Code.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to tackle bullying incidents, particularly in schools.
