A harrowing incident unfolded in southern Thailand as a mother and daughter were trapped by rising floodwaters in their standalone home. The elderly mother, exhausted and unable to hold on to a support, ultimately drowned in the surging water.
In a desperate attempt to prevent her mother’s body from being swept away, the daughter placed her mother’s body inside a household refrigerator. She then climbed into the fridge herself, floating along with the water while awaiting rescue. At the time, the floodwaters had nearly reached the ceiling.
Rescue teams entering the home later found water levels as high as 1.8 meters, making the situation extremely perilous. While responders were heartbroken over the elderly woman’s death, they were unable to prevent the tragedy.
This incident highlights the extreme dangers faced by residents in Hatyai as floodwaters continue to rise across the region.
