PM Anwar Launches Perodua’s First Electric Vehicle, the QV-E

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today officially launched Perodua’s first electric vehicle (EV), the Perodua QV-E, marking the national automaker’s debut in the local EV market.

Priced at RM80,000 excluding insurance and batteries, the QV-E is equipped with a 52.5kW Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, providing a range of up to 445km, depending on driving style, temperature, and road conditions.

At the launch, Anwar acknowledged initial doubts about Malaysia’s readiness to develop affordable EVs under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, unveiled in September 2023. He praised the dedication, innovation, and hard work of Malaysians that brought the project to fruition.

“I am very touched and proud as a Malaysian. This is a great day not only for Perodua, but for the country,” he said during the ceremony at Menara Miti.

Anwar added that Perodua’s achievement demonstrates that clear policies and disciplined execution can make ambitious goals attainable.

The QV-E, short for “Quest for Visionary Electric Vehicle,” cost RM800 million to develop and is produced at Perodua’s new Smart Mobility Plant in Sungai Choh, Selangor.

The vehicle comes with advanced safety technologies, including a Child Presence Detection system capable of tracking movement and vital signs such as breathing in the second-row seats and footwell area.

The QV-E is available in two colours, Ice Blue and Caviar Grey, and can be purchased at nine Perodua outlets nationwide, including Juru, Kota Bahru, Kuantan, Senawang, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Putrajaya, Shah Alam, and Petaling Jaya.

The launch follows Proton’s entry into the EV market last year with the Proton e.MAS 7, reflecting the growing local focus on electric mobility.
