Flood Evacuees Drop but Over 8,400 Still Seeking Shelter Across Nine States

Date:

A total of 8,457 people from 2,648 families remain displaced and are taking shelter at 136 temporary relief centres across nine states as of 7.30am today.

Data from the Social Welfare Department’s InfoBencana portal shows Perak still recording the highest number of evacuees, with 3,458 individuals from 1,004 families placed at 21 centres. Perlis follows with 2,217 evacuees from 815 families at 21 centres, while Selangor has 1,839 victims from 524 families taking refuge at 27 centres.

In Terengganu, 257 people from 95 families are housed at 37 centres. Kelantan has 233 evacuees from 88 families at three centres, Kedah has 192 individuals from 57 families at 14 centres, and Pahang reports 243 evacuees from six families at a single centre. Sarawak has 14 evacuees from two families and Kuala Lumpur reports four victims from two families, each placed at one relief centre.

The evacuees include 1,270 senior citizens, 2,660 children—including 220 infants—and 274 persons with disabilities.

Improved weather in most states helped floodwaters recede, reducing the number of evacuees significantly from 14,040 registered yesterday morning.

However, Public Infobanjir data indicates that several rivers and dams have yet to show signs of improvement. Some remain above the danger level, including the Timah Tasoh Dam in Perlis, Sungai Slim in Slim River and Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong in Perak, as well as Pintu Air Ijok in Selangor. Several stations remain on alert, including Rimba KDR in Selangor, Cheng U/S and Sungai Siput in Perak, Sungai Kesang in Johor, and Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.
