Man Injured in Crocodile Attack in Teluk Intan Amid Floods

Date:

A man sustained serious injuries to his left knee after being attacked by a crocodile at a farm in Kampung Sungai Buaya, Teluk Intan, Perak, on Saturday, November 29.

Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN) director Yusoff Shariff confirmed receiving the report of the incident at 6.30pm, adding that the victim was treated at Hospital Teluk Intan. Authorities believe the crocodile may have wandered into the area following floodwaters overflowing from a nearby canal, marking the first reported sighting of a crocodile in the village.

PERHILITAN has since increased monitoring in the area and installed warning signs to alert residents. Photos of the victim’s injuries circulated on WhatsApp over the weekend, raising awareness among villagers.

As of Saturday evening, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported 11 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) had been opened in the Hilir Perak district, including Teluk Intan, accommodating 1,950 flood victims from 587 families.
