MCA Threatens it May Leave BN if Coalition Keeps Backing People-Burdening Policies

Date:

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has warned that the party is ready to withdraw from Barisan Nasional (BN) if the coalition continues supporting government policies and political arrangements that, he says, burden the public and weaken its own standing.

Speaking at MCA’s general assembly, Wee said BN — which includes Umno, MIC, PBRS and MCA — risks being “dragged down” by federal policies that are unpopular and misaligned with the coalition’s core principles.

He stressed that MCA was not consulted on several policies backed by BN, leaving party leaders struggling to defend decisions they did not endorse.

Wee revealed that frustration was growing among MCA grassroots members who felt compelled to explain or justify policies that contradicted the party’s position.

“MCA is prepared to go its own way if BN insists on supporting policies and political arrangements that hurt the people and weaken the coalition,” he said. “Loyalty to BN cannot come at the expense of the rakyat.”

Wee added that public trust in political parties was fragile, and BN’s relevance would depend on its willingness to show independence, accountability and courage in raising issues that matter.

“If the unity government continues introducing policies that burden the people, and BN supports them without question, then MCA must be ready to act in the best interests of the rakyat,” he said.
