UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani expressed confidence that MCA will remain in Barisan Nasional (BN), highlighting the parties’ long-standing partnership.
Speaking after officiating the 100 Years of Rubber Research Celebration, Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said the current political landscape shows no single party can hold absolute power, making coalition cooperation essential.
“BN and MCA have worked together for over 50 years and are accustomed to collaboration. Some other parties may need a period of reconciliation, but our relationship is strong and enduring,” he said.
His remarks follow MCA’s resolution to leave BN if any component party cooperates with DAP in the next general election (GE16). Party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said such cooperation would signal that the BN spirit no longer exists.
