A satay seller was brought before the Magistrate’s Court today, accused of murdering his Indonesian employee whose body was discovered by the roadside late last month.
Tan Seng Hiang, 35, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with killing the victim — identified only as Sumarno — along Jalan Lumba Kuda, Jalan Penrissen Lama, between 1.47am and 2.37am on November 25.
As the charge falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction, no plea was recorded. Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali set January 27 for mention.
In a related case, Lim Hiong Hiap, 60, the shop owner of the premises where Tan operated his satay stall, was charged in another Magistrate’s Court with causing the disappearance of evidence.
He is accused of instructing a man identified as Goh Moh Seng to delete CCTV footage from Culture Inn — located next to his shop — at 1am on November 25.
Lim pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 201 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years’ jail.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan granted Lim RM2,000 bail with one local surety and set January 21 for case management.
Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly and Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani appeared for the prosecution, while counsel Daniel Ling represented both accused.
