A former photographer at the National Dental Centre of Singapore (NDCS) has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison for secretly taking hundreds of voyeuristic photos of female patients, according to The Straits Times.
Elgin Ng, 29, pleaded guilty in November to nine charges, including multiple counts of voyeurism, while another 21 charges were considered during sentencing.
Ng’s role required him to photograph patients’ teeth and jaws before surgery while following strict guidelines to ensure modesty. Female patients were to be covered with a blue board, and a female colleague had to be present or curtains kept open during imaging.
Investigations revealed that between June 2021 and May 2024, Ng repeatedly violated these rules, taking voyeuristic images when his colleague was absent. Court findings showed he maintained a personal list of patients he found attractive and secretly photographed them, often bypassing safeguards, including the blue board and proper camera angles.
Ng also accessed NDCS’s MiPACS system without authorization to download patients’ facial photos, matching them to the illicit images. Some photographs were even shared with a friend via Telegram.
The offences came to light after a victim lodged a complaint on April 16, 2024, and Ng subsequently resigned in May 2024.
