Teen Rider Killed, Pillion Injured In NSE Crash Involving Lorry

A 19-year-old male student was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a lorry at Kilometre 135 of the North-South Expressway northbound yesterday afternoon.

In the 5.40pm incident, the victim and a 19-year-old pillion rider were said to be travelling straight in the left lane when the crash occurred.

Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, said initial investigations found that a lorry ahead of the motorcycle had allegedly moved into the emergency lane prior to the collision.

He said the motorcycle subsequently struck the right rear tail light area of the lorry.

The impact caused the rider to suffer severe head injuries and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

The pillion rider sustained minor injuries to the hand and was taken to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) in Muar for treatment.

The 51-year-old lorry driver was not injured in the incident.

Police said preliminary alcohol and urine screening tests on the driver returned negative results.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
